Are you sure you did not just turn off the gas? One horizontal position is "reserve", the other is "off". I forget which is which, but I think forward is reserve, back is off. The other possibility is that the reserve orifice in your petcock is blocked. In any case, the capacity of the stock tank is probably less than the advertised 6.2 gal., maybe as little as 5.5 gal.
