ims tank

I have a black IMS military tank. Works fine. It took some milling with a dremel to make the fuel petcock fit (you take it from your old KLR tank. Also, I thought the petcock mounting surface was rather lame, but I think I surfaced it somehow, and it is working fine. Also, it takes a little time to set up the funny brackets that you attach to the tank, and become the mounting points for something (I forget, the front of the side covers???) The stock CA evap cannister works fine (some will argue here), but you can remove it with the IMS tank. You will need a fuel line attached to the top of the cap as a vent like the dirt bikes. I have noticed a slight gas smell in my garage from the open gas tank vent. You won't have that if you use the evap cannister. (for some reason I think I had to remove the evap cannister, but I don't recall why.) Jeff A20 In a message dated 4/30/2009 6:11:28 P.M. Do you know if there's any donwside to having one of these tanks (besides not being able to use a magnetic tank bag). I have been running an IMS tank for six years, and I'd say you have it about right. You might consider buying direct from IMS, or from Fred (if he carries them), who moderates this list, and who can't spam it no matter what he sells. Dual Star has not been very responsive lately and you could find yourself waiting a long, long time. You might wait a long time from the factory, no point in letting Dual Star extend your wait exponentially.

I, too, had a problem with dual star when I bought my IMS tank about 3 years ago. It was on back order, then back order, then back order, etc, for about 3 months. Then I just searched the web, found someone with one cheaper, and had it in 2 days. Then cancelled the dual star order..... Jeff A20 In a message dated 4/30/2009 6:30:51 P.M.
