modifying oem tall windshield

I've got this idea if I heat the windshield up in the oven and then bend the upper edge away from the rider position I might get some of the benefit the laminar lip thing provides. Mike, I have made some windscreens for my wee strom in the past. Some successful, but some disasters. If you overheat your screen it turns to jelly and is ruined. Next point, the oven will have a distinctive toxic smell for ages. As you know, women belong in the kitchen. If you bugger up that oven as I did your life aint worth living. Pay the money and get what you need. A friend of mine claims he made a windshield by making a form in the shape he wanted (wood - maybe weighted if I remember correctly) out of Lexan (I think), and putting it in a bath tub and pouring boiling water over it. Sounds like it might work. Probably have to experimente un pocito. Criswell

...thankfully not taking the motor with it! I bought a KLR650 (99 model) for 2 Gs last month. All setup for Baja, knobbies, skid plate, beefed up suspension, etc. The guy took good care of it, runs perfect, was wrecked and salvaged but no ill effects from the crash. When I asked him about the doohickey he said "the what"? My MC has like 8 of these bikes in the club now. One guy's motor grenaded at 800 miles bcse of doohickey failure, others have opened the engine to find the DH still okay. I am going on the sheetiron, bike has 20K miles, so I figured better do the hickey and not end up busted on the Mendocino pass. I leaned the bike over, opened her up, and lo and behold: Broken doohickey! Distorted lower part of adjuster slot broken off and just lying there in the case. Spring O.K. I replaced both, all back together in an hour and a half! Bike actually seems to run better now- perhaps balancer chain needed adjusting? I posted a pic album name "busteddoohickey"
