need real-world advice
The amount of travel is more important the faster you go off road. Have
you ever checked on the amount of travel that current trials bikes have?
It is usually less than the 2008 KLR. So in my opinion if you are going
at reasonable and prudent speeds, for a KLR, off road and the forks are
in good shape you will be fine. If you hit some huge pothole on any bike
you will be in trouble if the pothole is big enough.
