I've done it twice now without removing the hose, but I have no doubt that
removing the hose helps. Did you lose a lot of coolant?

I was able to get .008" and .010" right on the money. It would be Very
Nice if I don't need to replace any shims again for a very long time. It
is not a fun job, like sharkfins and cupholders are.
