Hello from Mpls. Minnesota. I bought a KLR650 in 2000. After riding a short time I found out my back can't take it anymore. (43 years old and I guess I'm going to be stuck on my Goldwing from here on out). When I bought mine I looked high and low for a decent used one in this area with no luck. This one is nice. If anyone knows someone looking they can E-mail me for specs. Thanks, Don

Several, lighter bikes have more leg room than a wing. Honda's own ST1300, yamaha's FJR1300 has even more. I too was considering a wing for my LD travels butt, the two examples have about convinced me otherwise. Both are lighter, faster, more comfortable, can haul just as much, and most importanly, CHEAPER. With the difference you could almost have a another bike, like a KLR! Good Luck, Mark Hanke

Typically if anyone is going to complain about comfort on a goldwing it will be those of us with bad knees. Something about those cylinder heads being in the way of where you want to place your foot to relax the knee. Compared to my Venture Royale, the cylinder heads on the Honda crowd my toes. The cylinder heads make for highway pegs that give a feeling like I'm sitting on this big fat barrel. And given the new Wings are over 800 pounds wet while my 85 Venture is only 670 pounds I don't think my knee wants to get anywhere near a Goldwing. If you are looking at a full dress touring rig the other options are the Kawasaki Voyager - while the design is as old as the KLR, in the late 80's it was one of the best touring bikes made, even better than the 1200 Wings. While compared to modern bikes it may not handle as well, but as the magazines say, you have to reach those speeds at which no sane person should ride a big touring bike to reach the point that the handling differences show up. The Yamaha Royale Star Venture - pure cruiser style, and it has looks that many say are more pleasing than an HD. Its got a 1300cc v-four engine that produces more than ample HP and torque for two-up touring. This is the same engine that is my older VR and folks are getting 200,000+ miles off that engine. Used full baggers: you will get your best bang for the buck by buying into a 1200cc, flat 4 Gold Wing. Enough were sold that the after market can provide every part you may need, with a lot of the pricey electronic parts crossing over to automotive equivalents. And there is my old Venture Royale. As long as you find one that has been cared for these are GREAT bikes. Its claim to fame is the engine, which was used as the base of the V-Max. You don't want a fixer upper ones of these as you'll be working off of parts bikes. The VR was built from 83-93. In 86 the engine went from a 1200 to a 1300.
