I am about to replace the drive chain on my KLR. Should I use a clip- type connecting master link or rivet-type connecting master link? Roy Cope

Use the rivet if you have the tool to secure it, if not, do the clip but don't forget to load the clip after it's installed, then secure it with some safety wire. TK

The outside plate it rests against should be moved out toward the clip so it is snug against it. A screwdriver will do the trick.
