use 18 in. tube on klr rear ?

Post by Chris » Mon Jul 18, 2011 9:44 am

Apologies if this is a FAQ, though I'd like to hear the current thinking -- In order to use a Heavy Duty tube, is it okay use an 18 inch tube in the rear KLR tire (TKC80, if that makes a difference). Thanks, Chris

If that s all you have and it is an emergency. Why not go with a 17 HD tube and not worry about it? If you can t find any, let me know. I got lots. That makes sense ... I guess I was focusing on the "ultra" heavy duty tubes. And yes, I just don't want to have to worry about it :-) thx Chris

I bought one of those, had to drill my rack to get the bracket mounted. Not too hard, didn't take long. Those who beat their swords into plowshares will plow for those who didn't. It came with a universal mounting bracket but I can't seem to get it mounted to the rack on my A16. Has anyone successfully mounted one of these? What's the secret? use 18 in. tube on klr rear ?

The tire guy I go to indicated that the HD tubes are not a good idea as they can heat up more when on the road alot? I had requested a HD tube after a flat on the front and then went with normal after his recommendations. He does quite a few tires/tubes for various bikes and I trust him? Was he full of it?
