Right you are, but it's still not a bike I'd want. I did about 80 miles on one and it was fun on the road, but it was pretty clunky on a dirt road. The fan is beyond obnoxious, the engine heat might be nice on a cold day but not in the desert, and the kickstand fell off. For another 3500 smackers you get a lot more capable bike with the R1200GS. __Arden --- In DSN_KLR650@yahoogroups.com, Ronald Criswell wrote:

Ron, I have both the KLR 650 and the Uly, in fact this is my third KLR 650, both bikes are 06 models. I am partial to the KLR for my off roading rides and the Uly is good to go on non-paved roads, notice non-paved, not two track etc. Actually this is my third Harley product and as of yet I have not been disappointed by any three Harley's contra to what has been said in the many Harley posts here abouts. My Uly is great at what it was designed for, quite fast actually and a great hooligan bike I must say. It is not a dual sport bike period, but then wasn't designed as such. I would suspect it's longevity will be very good, however any bike if properly maintained and ridden reasonably should last awhile. Heat dissipation is not much of a problem where I ride and live, the fan, well it cools the rear cylinder, activates whenever the engine is shut down and at a bit above 300 + degrees. Noisy, most certainly. many Uly riders believe "that noisy fans save lives" If I want to play in the dirt, the KLR, I I want to travel distances in short periods of time, The Uly. Will be happy to answer all inquiries regarding the XB12X, this list remains great since I joined it in 1999. Could be. I assumed it was the oil that made it hot. I'd hate to think the fuel was that hot.

A motorcycle that would certainly benefit from a synthetic engine oil. Fred

Yes. Synthetic oil, Dunlop D606s, fork emulators, and lowering links to boot. Arthur

I have used HD Syn 3 in the Uly since day one. As Hedrick can attest it does get hot out here. Oil use is minimal unless speeds exceed 90-100 MPH for any given length of time. Best Jim Alden Alamogordo, New Mexico USA [Non-text portions of this message have been removed]

I test rode one a year ago, and had two MAJOR problems with it: 1. EXTREMELY hot off rear cylinder (?) onto my inner thigh in crosswind; and 2. EXTREMELY limited steering lock. I came close to dropping it on the turn-around at the dealership as I'd had no warning. BOTH would be deal breakers for me. Ed

You got to wonder why anything associated with HD usually ends up being a product of fashion over function? I guess if there's enough shit-house peacocks out there willing to buy a machine for it's looks rather than it's performance, the junk will keep selling. Then again, if all they do is polish and shine their bikes, practical stuff doesn't matter..... Don fasteddiecopeman wrote: I test rode one a year ago, and had two MAJOR problems with it: 1. Rented a road king so my friend and I could ride around Maui for a few days. What a piece of freaking garbage. First and last time I'll ever ride a harley. Are there 4 wheel vehicles that compare to HDs, poor handling, brakes, noise, vibration etc, and high price? Just curious. Larry
