Hi, MG"s penchant for re-using old info has not helped us in our search for originality. The tail-light queries give evidence of this. The M.G.MIDGET (SERIES "TC") SERVICE PARTS LIST is another example of their parsimony. In section K under electrical equipment and instruments they give the following ref for stop/tail lamp as 27H 5131 and on plate R on which the illustrations are given show the later round TA type lamp. I find it hard to believe, although not impossible, that they didn't change this for the TB and subsequently TC. If a parts list exists for the TB it would be possible to ascertain if the ref. is the same. Regards Clem TC7218

circa TA #1790 and continued through the TB/C. Does anyone have any other

The round lamp ceased at body number 1789/10574, the D shape was introduces
at 1790/10554, this from the TA~TB parts list.

For the debate on Body numbers then it seems that all the changes in the
parts list that relate to Body rather than chassis numbers would give
sucsessife chassis on the production line (?) so 1790/10554 rolled along
the line immediately after 1789/10574 - but we dont know what their chassis
numbers were!

The Service Parts List (Series TA and TB) does indeed show separate parts
for the 'O' light and the later 'D' lamp. The change over is however given by
BODY NUMBER, as several other listers have pointed out. Thus for body
1789/10574 and earlier it is an 'O' lamp and for body 1790/10554 it is a 'D'
lamp. Unfortunately we can only 'calculate' which chassis this might relate
to as to my knowledge MG never kept any records associating chassis and body
numbers.

It clearly occurs either at the point the TB chassis stated to roll off or
just a few days, weeks before the last of the 1939 TAs. My work with body
numbers recently indicates to me that it was at the point the TBs started.
