I pulled up to a stop signal next to a 1947 Chevrolet and had a little
conversation with the driver about the relative merits of the two cars. The
light turned green and I got a wee bit heavy on the accelerator and let the
clutch out a wee bit too fast. I didn't make it across the intersection. I
can no longer engage any gear. The shifter works fine; I have to depress the
clutch to shift into gear, but when I let out the clutch - nothing happens.
It is the same for all gears including reverse. So now my question is - What
did I break? Jim (hotrod) Shade, West Covina CA

Easy to do particularly in the circumstances you mention.......

Busted halfshaft. Join the club. I've done it a half dozen or so times
but I always carry a spare, never got towed home yet, I just fix it by
the side of the road. Embarrassing as all hell ain't it?

Re: Now I've gone and done it !!!
Jim,
I agree--almost certainly a broken half-shaft is what you have!
Maybe you should have your TC take survival lessons from my TC
(Betsy)--last time she snapped one, she waited until she was rolling through
an inersection at the top of one of the very few hills in Gainesville. She
actually coasted home, and RIGHT INTO MY GARAGE from the point of breakage!!!
Regards, and condolences (even though it was probably inevitable),
