We currently have a TA rebuild going on with a new frame from Ashframe International in the workshop here. It is a nice job and I have had no problems with it. John and Fergus are a nice pair and they seem to work to the timescales they promise. They are at ASHFRAME INTERNATIONAL +44 (0) 191-230-1930 (JOHN DUNCAN and FERGUS DUNCAN) 105 BACK NEW BRIDGE ST NEWCASTLE UPON TYNE NE1 2TY Regards Clive ===========================================

Hello Clive, But are the Bros. Duncan still using Phillps screws to fasten the ash together? Many years ago, when I rebuilt the ash frame of TC0978 myself, I used "off the shelf" zinc plated slotted head screws. Just before repanelling, I noticed some corrosion on the heads, and on taking them out, most were black where the zinc had reacted with the acids or resins in the timber and (apart from the pieces I replaced with laminated marine ply) this was the original 1946 wood. So I replaced every woodscrew with stainless! hopefully they will be in perfect condition to remove easily during the next tub rebuild, which is pencilled in for 2046.... ocTagonally TCRoger

I was under the impression that the screws were supposed to corrode slightly to make sure they don't loosen. I know some guys have had problems with stainless loosening.... This may be a non-problem, as most of the cars are not driven very often. I don't know the answer...but someone out there with wood/coach-building experience may.....
