TC Battery Replacement

I fitted this 42AH battery in 2012, which is still performing well (excellent service from Tanya).  The battery has the correctly positioned terminals (for positive earth).  I always use a Ctek charger when parked up, worth every penny.https://www.tayna.co.uk/car-batteries/numax/015/ https://www.tayna.co.uk/battery-chargers/ctek/mxs5-0/

Mike, The simple answer is to take a tape measure with you into Halfords and buy the biggest battery that will fit into the battery compartment consistent with whatever means you use to fix it into position. I have a battery from Halfords in my TC. It is their model No HB053, but there is probably room for a larger one. Generally batteries don't die due to use, they die due to misuse. My daily driver is more than ten years old now and still has its original battery but a battery sitting in a classic car which is used less frequently is particularly vulnerable. This can be mitigated by the use of an intelligent charger such as those made by Ctek. RegardsPeter

Mike, Peter,When I needed new batteries on my MGC, I was advised by an experienced MGC man, to buy the smallest 12v battery that Halfords sold. It would have more than enough power even for a 6 cylinder, 3 litre engine, compared to the 2 x 6 volt batteries originally used. Sure enough, he is right. Thus I did the same for the TC. It has more than enough power, and just about fits down into the box.not expensive either.It shows how battery technology has advanced since our cars were made.Just a thought, Graham Sent from my iPad

I do the same for all my MGs. I use the Westco battery from the first generation MX-5. It's an AGM battery which is very small and light. I have used  batteries coded 063 (same as Peugeot 205 I think) in my TC and in my MGA for years with no problems. They seem to be a common size and not expensive  even for 5 year warranty ones. Eurocar parts often have offers and they deliver free.Tony Sent from Yahoo Mail on Android

Hi Mike, The original rating for the TC battery was 51 Amphours. 3 batteries from Halfords fit the specification:- HB 075 520 Amps and 56 Amphours at aprox. 70 HCB 075 550 Amps and 60 Amphours at aprox. 80 HCB 063 425 Amps and 46 Amphours at approx. 70 The HCB range is Calcium enhanced and has a 4 year guarantee as opposed to 3 years for the HB type. My HCB 063 lasted some 11 years having made sure that it was not overcharged during use and given a few charges during the winter months. Group 54 batteries also fit well, and a very common size.  About 1 inch wider than a group 51 and a couple inches shorter.  Width-wise, they fit like a glove in my TC battery box.  640 CCA in my group 54 standard duty.  Duncan-TC9866/exu
