This is more of a question for our UK friends:
I am ordering the plates with which the TB was registered. I know they were 3 1/2" pressed aluminum letters, but I wonder if they did or did not have a border? Was the border a vanity accouterment added after the war? Was it available and commonly used in 1939?

Cameron, Why not just get them replated with nickel by your local plating specialist - I've done both my TCs this way after careful cleaning and preparation and they look great without lacquers and other concoctions. Viv

I gather that a plate number assigned to a British Car stays with the car, is this correct? I was sent a picture of my TA with the plate number JV 5049 in big letters. It was imported into the US in the late seventies. Is this likely an "original" number. Mike

Soaked in penetrating oil, heated up, more oil, repeat many times, then managed to get a small puller on them and pulled the plates off the pivots. I'm replacing the pivots anyway. Nothing else worked including a very large slide hammer. I'm surprised the plates survived that little endeavor. As a side note, I was pleasantly surprised that the Moss replacement pivots were not only the exact dimensions of the originals, but were supplied with the correct threads and whitworth size nuts. - Steve Simmons - TC8975, LA, CA - http://www.mgnuts.com
