Need a non T series part
Hey Group,
Does anyone out there know where I can find a Austin Healey Bugeye sprite
 tach. drive generator?
Mine has a burned out armature and produces about 2 volts. The local auto
electric guy can't repair it. Both Moss and Victoria are out of stock.
Anyone out there know of someone who can rebuild mine?
 Appreciate any help.
 Regards

Don't know where you live, but we have a guy here in RI that you might try.
He specializes in Brit electrics, and has rebuilt 9 post regulators and such
for me You can reach him at the following:

 JACK'S AUTO IGNITION
 Libera St. Cranston, RI 02920

 Good Luck,

PS. Anyone going to Limerock VSCCA races this weekend in Conn?

 Yes, YOU can.
Disassemble the generator keeping track of what goes where. A digital camera
 helps the first time.
Call an armature rewinding shop and have them check the armature, if it needs
to be rewound it should cost about $25, in Chicago at least. The field coils
are usually wrapped in newspaper or tape. Ask the armature shop where to get
the tape and the'll probably give you some to rewrap your if they are good.
The end plates need bushings and should be available from any bearing
supplier, bring the pates in and have them measure it for you. Have a machine
shop press in the bushes ($5).
Get the brushes from Moss or where ever and that's pretty much it.
You will have a better unit than any of the usual places sell for less money.
You can also spend days making it cosmetically perfect.
Remember to soak the bushes overnight in 10W before installation.

If you are on the west coast (or even if you're not), I reccommend
TABC member Jerry Felper, Anaheim, California,
felperg@earthlink.net. He is listed on our TABC web site Parts
Suppliers link as British Auto Electric (in the Restorers section).

I had taken a TC generator to a local auto electric shop and they
said it could not be fixed. Jerry did it quickly and at a reasonable
cost. My armature windings were shorted out also.

I have used an early Sprite tach drive generator on my TD so assume that a
TD or TF unit would work on your sprite. Threads for the tach drive are the
 same.
