oil leak
Speaking of Mark Twain, I was riding in the Sierra Mtns. again this weekend,
camped out in Angels Camp CA. with 3000 other people at a rock music
concert. Angels Camp was made famous by Mark Twain in some tale about a
jumping frog of Calaveras County. Lots and lots of places for dualsporting
around Angels Camp. People in this area are organizing to work out a local
intiative to manage the recreational users of the nat'l forests, trying to
 preempt Clintons roadless intiative.
Before I went up I changed the oil over to Chevron Delo 15W-40 Diesel oil.(
Darn, I forgot to check the valves!) I'm seeping a little oil from the cover
to the oil filter, now I'm about to go out and change the o-ring seal to the
cover, maybe I damaged it during reinstall. I'll let you know if that fixes
it. (Note: Fram oil filters include replacement O-rings).
I had my audio recording gear with me this weekend( portable Sony DAT), on
the way home I recorded my motor for 2 hours. Pretty interesting, think I'll
 have my valves checked.

oil leak
Changed the oil before a 400 mile trip and upon arriving home I noticed the
skid plate had oil on it, a lot of oil. I had tightened the drain bolt
without a torque wrench. I tried to snug it a bit and it was tight but it
turned. Afraid it was stripped I grabbed the torque wrench and did it right.
I was able to turn it several turns past the point it felt good, before I
reached the torque spec. Just wondering if this could be the leak problem
 with others.
New mind set, torque-torque-torque. I should have known better.

oil leak
Hi.

I have a light oil leak in the valve cover gasket.

I don't want to fix it now cause I want to ride.

What I'm wondering is if it's safe to put automotive
Oil leak stop ( Bradhal or some other) in the bike.
Is there special motorcycle oil leak stop??

 Thanks.

oil leak
Hello KLR riders,
I just found the source of the oil leak on my week-old KLR650. It is coming
out of the small oil on the bottom of the water pump. Apparently a seal is
bad. I guess I'll take it back to the dealer and let him fix it since it is
 under warranty.
 Thanks,
 Carl

oil leak
Greetings all, I have drippy KLR syndrome. I consulted my Physician
and he referred me to you guys. I just got my bike about a month ago.
Its been great except that its been dripping oil from around the
return line that comes out of the back of the head on the left side.
I searched the archives for "oil leak" and got no hits. I replaced
the crush washers(11009)for that connection today and the leak has
gotten worse. The bolt is tight, is it possible that it could be
bottoming out somehow before it compresses the washers and seals the
connection? I've looked at the diagram on Rev. Chucks website and
everything looks in order. Is there another bolt in the system, with
an oil passage, that may be longer and some how got switched by the
preveous owner...Just a stab in the dark. ANY suggestions will be
 much appreciated Gang?

oil leak
I have oil leaking out of the small hole on the right side of the
engine. It appears to be a drain hole of some sort and is just
toward the center of the engine from the coolant drain plug on the
water impeller. Is this the oil release valve? What do I do about
 it?

Are you talking about the weep hole ? Correct me if I'm wrong, but it would seem that this is bad. oil leak
Hi all:
My 2002 KLR 650 with 1,600 miles has developed an oil leak.
Just about 3 or 4 drops after each ride.
Does anyone know where I should look first, or should I just accept it
as part of owning a KLR?
 Thanks for any input.
 Wendell in Tennessee.

First thing that comes to mind, is your chain too tight? That will make the seal leak on the countershaft. See owners manual for chain adjustment. It's need about 2 to 2 1/2 inches slack with the suspension unloaded. I think the FAQs may have something about chain adjustment.
