Well ok then, changing a tire with two rim locks require a different procedure.  YMMV  Everyone has their own way of changing tires and this is just how I do it.  Getting the tire off when you have two rim locks is pretty much the same as one rim lock but when you go back together it is just too tight usually to get the tire over both rim locks at once.  What I do is start the installation with just one rim lock in the rim and get the first bead of the tire mounted.  I always have the rim tape on top of the rim lock, unless it is a KTM and they are mounted between the rim lock and the rim.  Once you get the first bead on the rim I push or pull the tire away enough at the rim lock hole to expose the rim tape.  I ll pull out about a foot of rim tape and lay along the side of the rim.  Then you should have enough room to put in the second rim lock (this will be on the outside of the tire to start).  You can try putting the second rim lock inside the tire instead of the outside but my fingers are usually too fat for this.  Put the rim tape on top of the second rim lock.  Use your tire levers to lever over the first bead of the tire over the rim lock and then you are ready for the tube.  You can use Real Talcum if you like on the tube (not necessary) but don t use Baby Powder since that is made from corn starch and makes a gooey mess when it gets wet.  Be sure the tube isn t under the rim locks or under the first bead.  I remove the valve core so the tube is relaxed and not in the way of the tire beads or tire levers.  Install the second tire bead starting at one of the rim locks, working your way around to the second rim lock.  Push in on the rim lock bolts so that the rim lock allows the tire to fit in the channel in the rim.  Finish up with the second bead at the valve stem, pushing in the valve stem so the tire doesn t get on top of the tube there.  I always air up the tube twice, once to seat the bead and the second time so the tube inflates without and stretched or weakened places.  After you air up the tube to your recommended pressure is when I tighten the rim locks and valve stem nut.  After doing a couple bazillion tires, this becomes second nature.  Sorry if I made this more complicated than it really is.  Good luck and one more tip, when you are putting on your tires, listen when the tire lever is inside the tire that it sounds metallic, if it sounds like hitting rubber, STOP!  Hitting metallic good, hitting rubber bad.  When you cam over your tire levers, don t go all the way down as you have a good chance of hooking the tube and pinching it that way.  Just lever over your tire levers just enough to get the tire to move.  There s probably another dozen steps I have forgotten but you need to develop what works best for you.   Good luck and practice makes perfect.   Fred http://www.arrowheadmotorsports.com   [b]From:[/b] roncriswell2@... Not much different than without the rim lock bolts (they are the big, mushroom head "bolt" type?), IME.   Haven't tried to explain for some years to this is mostly to see how I do but might be something useful:   Back the rim lock nuts off to the end of the threads but not off the stud.   Lever one side of the tire over while hooking tire over the locks.   Push the rim locks as far as conveniently possible into the tire, then move them back only as far as needed to install the tube into the tire.   Insure that the valve core is removed from the valve stem and, particularly if using a new tube, inflate the tube enough that it is full of air but don't stretch the tube to larger diameter. This is to arrange the tube so that it is less likely to move between tire and rim lock or between tire & wheel.   Stuff valve stem portion of tube into the tire and fit valve stem through the hole in the wheel. Thread the stem nut onto the end of the stem but don't turn down.   Stuff the remainder of the tube into the tire, between tire and rim locks.   Check to insure that the tube is not inserted between tire and wheel or between rim lock and a pinch point on tire.   Begin levering tire into place, starting opposite to the valve stem and alternating as needed to avoid binding tire bead area against valve stem.   As rim locks are encountered, move lock plate and tire bead to allow lock plate into the tire. Push onto end of lock stud to push plate into tire to avoid plate binding/catching lock plate between tire/wheel.   Once tire bead is into place, push lock studs inward to insure that the lock plates are free and not cocked or pinched.   Slowly inflate the tube while monitoring lock plate studs to insure that they don't cock and bind in the holes. Stop before there is more than a few pounds of pressure in the tube and deflate. Push inward about 1/2 way, and wiggle the lock plate studs to make sure they are free, then pull them out and inflate tube. Deflate tube, then inflate again to seat bead.   Some people like to use a bead lube for this operation while others discourage. Up to you. Just do not use pressure much above that of recommended normal inflation to seat the bead.   I don't like to use lubricants which will remain in a form which will lubricate the bead area on an ongoing basis or which will redissolve when water is encountered. Dish soap and the like will redissolve when the tire is in water, according to some concerns, for example. I'm not getting into that debate at this point but offer for consideration that encouraging the tire to move on the wheel is not ideal. The rim locks are intended to avoid this so choice of lubricant should be less of a consideration.   Another consideration is that caustic based soaps are considered by some to be a corrosion risk for the wheel & spokes. Your nickel.    Once bead is seated, I like to deflate one more time and check that the rim locks are still free to push in and wiggle. If checked, pull them out fully, install valve core and inflate tire.   Snug up the rim lock nuts with Loctite if that is your choice and/or install silicone RTV or what ever your practice to discourage rim lock nuts from backing off. Loctite is often helpful for reducing thread corrosion.   If all goes well and you complete the operation without remedy to excremental language, please edit or modify the above as necessary and share it. If you are not forced to use of bad language, your procedure is obviously better than mine.   Rim locks on big off road bikes was the main reason I negotiated a "I don't do tire work." clause when was a bike tech. Rough, grunt work and no fun so avoided it as much as possible. In one case, by pinching a series of tubes until the service manager intervened. Later, when being ridiculed by another tech because I couldn't do a tire without pinching the tube, my only response was, "Yes, and you'll notice they've never asked me to do any more tires!" His grin fell to the floor like a fresh cow pie.   Any chance that demonstrating incompetence might cause someone to intervene and do all the tire changes in future?
