my take on the jury duty thing. - nklr -

Michael, Attacking members of this list is not allowed. Using swear words on this list is against Yahoo s Terms of Service. Discussing jury duty on this list is allowed when NKLR is used in the subject line so those not interested may use filters to exclude those messages. Since you are new to this list, I will let this slide for now but please understand that wintertime on a motorcycle list is the slow time of the year for most of us and discussions will range from all sorts of subjects. For some of us on this list we have discussed most KLR subjects Ad Nauseam but if you have a subject you are interested in please bring it to our attention. If a few non KLR subjects offend you then I encourage you to find your perfect KLR list where only KLR stuff is discussed. On this list we have three simple rules, please follow them and archives to this list that should keep you busy for a very long time. Any list member disturbed enough about Michael s comments, you know what you can do with them. Best wishes, Fred List Admin. Listen guys, if you don't knock off this jury bullshit I am going to remove myself from this group. I don't need it, I am not interested, and I am sure there are others who have no interest in your opinions on bullshit conversations which are off topic. The KLR us a great bike that guys (and I am sure the odd gal) like to talk about and share stories, hints, suggestions and so on. NOBODY is interested in your opinions on jury duty. Go find somewhere else to chat. [Non-text portions of this message have been removed]

I have to agree with Michael. It may be "ok" to speak off-topic as long as you use the nklr, but I subscribe to this email list for KLR related subjects, and really don't want, or need, to hear peoples opinions on jury duty. Personally I'm getting irritated with having a ton of posts come from the list about jury duty. Ryan Newman Phoenix, AZ Fred Hink wrote:

Like Fred said, setting up a filter to trash anything with "NKLR" in the subject is fairly easy. A couple of clicks and you'll never see them again. -Jeff Khoury

Yeh, but that's not the point. The point is that we are all on here because we like the KLR, and want to share and learn from this email list. There could very well be somethings that are NKLR that we would indeed find interesting. I'm sure Michael agrees, that I don't mind NLKR posts from time to time, the problem comes with that off topic thread going on for a week straight. That's just ridiculous. If you guys really have that much to talk about when it comes to a post like that, you really should find another medium to do it. Whether it's technically ok or not is missing the point, I'd wager that the large majority of the group doesn't care what a few guys think about jury duty. Sure I can make filters and not read certain emails, but on the same token posters need to also be considerate about whet they're posting and how it affects others. It goes both ways. the jury is out on this "stealership" - nklr-ish

OK, so I just moved into the Midland TX area and was looking around for a KLR mechanic; my KLR need some repairs to the speedometer and  to replace the valve cover gasket.  I decided to take it to a local Stealership.

The Stealership shop said that the part for the Speedometer might be fairly expensive so if I wanted to, I could buy a used speedometer off the internet and they would install a used part.  But, they said that they would not provide any warranty if I went with a used part - far enough.  My jaw dropped!   I have never seen any Stealership that would try to save you money by using  a part that you provide.  Let alone telling you where to go find a cheaper used part than the one that they sell!  It turned out that the speedometer issue was a bent part, and they fixed it - gulp - for free!?  They are only going to charge me for the valve cover.

I think I am starting to like these guys.  The jury is out until I and test ride to check the results; and get the bill.

P.S.  Please accept my apologies a priori if anyone feels that this is not an appropriate topic for this venerated newsgroup.  Many times I see topics on this newsgroup that I might not be interested in and I hit the  Delete button without reading it.  But, that's just me.
