Hello All, My brother and I will be meeting up for a KLR adventure in Moab this spring. We will be heading out on the 18th (Me from California and He from Oklahoma) and tentatively we're arriving in town on the 20th. Of course we'll be stopping by Arrowhead to say "Hi" to Fred and grab any last-minute farkles, and if any other listers are going to be in the area, shoot me an email so we can connect for a ride or a beer. Of course we're open to any suggestions as to must-ride roads and trails. Tentative schedule: 18th: Superslab ride on I-40, meeting (where else?) standing on a corner in Winslow, Arizona. 19th: Two-laners to Kayenta, get a room, drop the panniers and explore Monument Valley, hopefully catching a great sunset. 20th: Load up, Valley of the Gods road, Mokee Dugway, Natural Bridges Park, on to Moab for the night. 21st - ?: Establish base camp in Moab for day rides to all the cool places. Play it by ear. He will probably head for home on the 25th or 26th, I haven't decided where I'll go or what I'll do on the way home. Any and all are welcome to join. -Jeff Khoury

Since you are coming from the south and depending on your riding abilities, you may want to consider coming to Moab by the way of the Lockhart Basin Road. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TXGGKVNJXFs It s pretty rocky and some really great riding and views of the area. It parallels part of the White Rim Road without all the traffic. If you are loaded heavy, you may want to take pavement to town and dump off your gear before doing the Lockhart Basin. There are some nice roads over our mountains but there most likely will still be snow blocking the passes in May. All the desert riding will be open then but most likely full of all sorts of other visitors. I have lots of maps of the area and can set you up with enough riding to keep you busy for as long as you like. See you in May. I for sure recommend going home by way of highway 12 through the Grand Staircase - Escalante, if you haven t been through there before. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Utah_State_Route_12 Randy From: DSN_KLR650@yahoogroups.com [mailto:DSN_KLR650@yahoogroups.com] On Behalf Of Jeff Khoury Sent: Tuesday, January 08, 2013 12:32 AM To: DSN KLR650 Subject: [DSN_KLR650] Moab in May Hello All, My brother and I will be meeting up for a KLR adventure in Moab this spring. I've done it in the car, and it's amazing. Highly recommend it. Ryan Phoenix, AZ SniperOne wrote:

If you don t want a ticket, the safe bet is to not break the law. If you wanted to camp outside of town, there are lots of trails you can ride from camp that are legal with your OHV sticker. Be sure it is reciprocal with Utah or you can buy a temporary sticker from the Moab Information Center in the middle of town or any Maverik gas station. There are many trails here you won t see too much of online and are more difficult than the KLR is capable of. It all depends on what you want to ride and how experienced you are. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5uIxhz1M3Rc&noredirect=1 Fred http://www.arrowheadmotorsports.com From: Desert Datsuns Sent: Tuesday, January 08, 2013 9:01 AM To: DSN KLR650 Subject: Re: [DSN_KLR650] Moab in......March Thanks for the feedback. We won't be riding from Phoenix, likely driving the pickup with the bikes in the back. The KLR is convenient because it's plated for the street. The CRF450X only has an OHV plate, and I don't want to get it fully licensed. The word on the street is that the local authorities won't bother you too much if you ride on pavement, as long as you're not being an idiot. I'm not sure how true that is, but I don't want a ticket either. Ryan Phoenix, AZ Fred Hink wrote:
