2009 radiator leak
I have a leak in the Fins of my 09 KLR 650, can I just put JB weld or something on the affected area to stop the leak?

OK, I'm not a radiator expert, but my instinctive reaction is "No". I
would say "take it to a radiator shop". If it's a leak in a metal
portion, they may be able to solder or braze it. If it's in the
plastic, probably not, but there may be something to bond it (probably not).
Others may have other advice....
Stay tuned.

Answer NO! some times you can trim away fins and solder or Braze it IF YOU ARE GOOD!
(too much heat and ....@%^#$**&)
My Advice...Do what Robert said, take it to a radiator shop, they will also PRESURE test it. Do you realy want to be sitting on the side of the rd.

PS. I Braze, Solder, (sweat pipes, wires, etc.) Weld, Mig, arc, gas torches.
I myself, would still take it in. (they will test it.)

AT 15psi pressure, I would not trust JB weld past an emergency repair that takes you home to the shop.
Radiator repair shop might be an option; afterall, someone constructed it, someone should be able to repair a leak.
Perhaps even closing off an individual cooling tube without significant loss of cooling.
But overall:
Your radiator has invited you to look at Ebay.
Don't ignore the invitation. smile.
revmaaatin.

As the Rev. said JB Weld probably will not hold , there is aproduct that I used ( not on the bike) on several of my vehicules ,old 1968 444 International tractor radiator, 1995 Jeep Wrangler when my wife blew head gasket, it is expensive but I, from my experience, knows that it works. Your call.

I wouldn't be so sure about that. I've used JB weld on car gas tanks,
intake manifolds, etc, over the years and it has rarely failed. As long
as the joint isn't structural and under stress, and it's been roughened
up to get good adhesion, it usually works better than you'd think.
Even so, if it was mine, I'd take it to a radiator shop.

The stress on the radiator is the worst possible stress, that is,
internal stress from hot water pressure on an external patch. Not an
easy application.
Gas tank pressure stress is basically the height of the gas, which is
what, one psia?
Intake manifolds suck, so you are sucking the patch into the leak. Much
easier that way.

Hence a PRO, brazing it.

2009 radiator leak
Pull the radiator while it is winter and take it to a radiator shop. there are still a few around and they will know how to fix it correctly.
The word everybody is searching for right now is coefficient of thermal expansion. the stuff the radiator is made of expands at a known rate. The radiator is designed to grow and shrink without breaking. JB expands at a different rate and will either tear off the radiator do to expansion or cause the radiator to tear itself apart if not. Radiator shops will solder it with like material if it can be done thus allowign it to continue to funtion properly.
Sorry for the bummer of an answer but radiators are tough. You might want to look into the cost of a new one
