tkc80 question
Chris,
How do you like the TKC80s on road? Noisy but not intrusively so?
Good grip? Wear?
I have a FZ8 and am about to do something stupid and fit a set of TKC80s
on it for fun. Unless I can be talked out of it, of course. Then I'll put on
some boring Pirelli Angels.

I use TKC-80s also. I do not inflate them as much as Chris. 22-24 psi
is more typical for me, on road. 20 psi off road.
I like them and I find that unless I am cornering in oil, they hold on
the street very well. Off road, my limited skill set makes me very
cautious, but they seem to be able to hang with the rest of the group,
even if I can't. They do not seem to pack with mud too bad and get me
slowly through whatever I'm courageous enough to try. Or fail.
Depending. My failures have never been the tire's fault. I have seen
others on the same terrain get stuck pretty bad on less aggressive
rubber (Versys get pushed out, for instance).

tkc80 question
I like the TKC80s a lot. Fantastic street grip, very good off-pavement,
except mud. Pretty slippery in mud. Great on gravel. On pavement I've been
surprised how far I get leaned over even when not trying (definitely NOT
trying to get lean angle on street knobbies!).
They don't last real long compared to a street tire, of course. I get
something like 3-4,000 mi. from the rear and 5-6,000 from the front. I'd
like to try a more dual-sport tire, but with good pavement grip and great
off-pavement grip I keep coming back to TKC80s.
YMMV, as they say,
Chris

Easy....
Mobil 1

Shell Rotella T - if you don't want to spend the money for synthetic.
There is no better oil at a lower price.
Let the debate begin!

tkc80 question
I have ridden lots of mud on TKC-80 tires and yes, they slip around, but
what doesn't? I was on a very muddy trip earlier this year and a guy on
a Versys with what looked like Continental Escapes had to literally be
pushed up a hill that I rode up.
I will admit that slippery clay mud scares me a lot and I slow down.
I've never been stuck on them though, through mud, leaves, sand (not
deep sand), pine needles, and the assorted rocks and gravel and dirt.

tkc80 question
Oh please, an oil thread would be so blase, however, a schism about how to clean/lube a chain............ well now you have a true re-thread. Oil vs. WD-10, that should carry us well into the new year.
Eddie (a proponent of WD-40 to clean, then oil the chain)
