sturgis

I missed Rally Week this year for the first time since 1988. I did get out to the Hills at the end of June. We had a good group and enjoyed the Rev's hospitality in Belle Fourche. I managed to avoid a trip into Sturgis proper, just as I usually do during Rally Week. I don't really need the backdrop of gay pirates and their life-saving motorcycles to enjoy the area. The quality of the experience was fully the equal of my usual Rally Week adventures, which are typically a combination of off-pavement exploration and tire repair, with a little wrenching thrown in. I had to wrench a little more this trip, but the riding and the quality of the company were excellent. Anyway, the secret to enjoying Sturgis is to stay out of Sturgis as much as possible. If you have limited time, there is no shame in trailering out, as you can shave a day off your transit time each way.
