ruger scout rifle nklr

Post by Randall Marbach » Sat Oct 13, 2012 9:46 pm

I picked up my Scout Rifle today... It's a nice handling little gun... I am hoping to get out and shoot it this week. I can see now why the 308 Scout is considered the KLR of rifles. The bolt action allows it to chamber a mixer of 308 loads simultaneously.. The 308 cartridge can be loaded for nearly silent subsonic loads using a 0 buckshot suitable for situations where you would use a 22 rifle all the way up to cartridges suitable for bear or elk. It will also fire Nato 7.62 x 51 surplus ammo. I'm really looking forward to getting out on the range with this puppy. It is analogous to a KLR as far as utility, as it does sort of fit the "if I could have only one rifle" criteria. It will hunt and it will serve as self defense, and the bolt action is pretty stone reliable. The one primary difference from a KLR is the matter of power - a .308 slug from a 16 1/2" barrel is a bit more authoritative than twisting the green machine's throttle . . . I am installing a 6x18x40 scope on my Ruger Scout Rifle and plan on changing the bullets often. I decided on this scope mostly because I had it laying around. 520 chain link? & balls

Post by mark ward » Mon Oct 15, 2012 10:54 am

It was the "chain guy" at Bike master, that said it, I know he was wrong about "ALL" but wondered how wrong. BALL's: The MOTO Tire "expert" at Metzler, said he's been there since 95, and has never heard of such a thing. I told him to google the issue, and he would start finding it. Also he said it's a big mistake to re-use a tube (even HD) that it's been stressed, (I, usualy re-use it in 2-3 tire's) - On Mon, 10/15/12, Fred Hink wrote: From: Fred Hink Subject: Re: [DSN_KLR650] 520 Chain link? To: "List KLR" DSN_KLR650@yahoogroups.com>, "mark ward" Date: Monday, October 15, 2012, 3:22 PM There is no standard . Usually the smaller and cheaper chains will use a clip type master link and the better or more expensive chains will use a rivet type. I have seen both clip and rivet type used with the same model chain. All chains used to come with clip type master links but that has changed through the years. They also used to be able to put together by hand but that is not the case today as all master links use a press-fit side plate that will need a tool to assemble. There are cheaper riveting tools on the market now, where they used to sell for around $150, you can now get a press tool and riveting tool for around $70. One common misconception is that all 520 chains will use the same master link. This is not the case since the 520 size only determines the pin spacing and the inside width of the links, not pin diameter. Most all manufacturers will use a pin diameter for their needs and so the master link should be of the same manufacture and model as the chain you are trying to fit. Others may work but then you are taking a chance of not fitting or installing a weak link which would break much faster than the rest of your chain. Most all chains give you the option of a clip type or rivet type master link. All chains come with one master link and if you want a different type you will have to order that. Who ever told you that all 520 and larger chains come with a clip type master link doesn t know what they are talking about. I OOP'S, In a last minute rush, (R. tire off etc.) I picked up a chain localy, instead of waiting a few days and getting it from fred. The Rivet link head broke, and I called bike master for a replacement, (sending out today) The ??? They said ALL 520 and larger chains come with CLIP master links, yet the last 3 I replaced (mine& others) they all came with compresion RIVET Links. What have you seen as a standard, for the master links in a 520???
