i have balls........?????

Post by mark ward » Sun Oct 14, 2012 11:33 am

I was ballancing the new tire and heard a noise. It turn out, there are 4 little (rubber?) balls inside the inner-tube. (Metzler HD) It Drove me nuts (oop's already there) I thougt the new tire was rubbing or maybe worse a bearing going bad. I spent 1/2hr + testing everything else, before pulling it all apart and checking the tube. Just an FYI for future use. [Non-text portions of this message have been removed]

How did you discover the balls inside the tube? Were you able to get them out through the valve stem, or did you have to cut the tube open?

after getting the garrage very quite, I hear the rolling. When I pulled the tube and held it up, I could feel them in the bottom. To BIG to have gotten in or out threw the stem. (1/8-3/16? inch)

520 chain link?

Post by Fred Hink » Mon Oct 15, 2012 10:22 am

There is no standard . Usually the smaller and cheaper chains will use a clip type master link and the better or more expensive chains will use a rivet type. I have seen both clip and rivet type used with the same model chain. All chains used to come with clip type master links but that has changed through the years. They also used to be able to put together by hand but that is not the case today as all master links use a press-fit side plate that will need a tool to assemble. There are cheaper riveting tools on the market now, where they used to sell for around $150, you can now get a press tool and riveting tool for around $70. One common misconception is that all 520 chains will use the same master link. This is not the case since the 520 size only determines the pin spacing and the inside width of the links, not pin diameter. Most all manufacturers will use a pin diameter for their needs and so the master link should be of the same manufacture and model as the chain you are trying to fit. Others may work but then you are taking a chance of not fitting or installing a weak link which would break much faster than the rest of your chain. Most all chains give you the option of a clip type or rivet type master link. All chains come with one master link and if you want a different type you will have to order that. Who ever told you that all 520 and larger chains come with a clip type master link doesn t know what they are talking about. I OOP'S, In a last minute rush, (R. tire off etc.) I picked up a chain localy, instead of waiting a few days and getting it from fred. The Rivet link head broke, and I called bike master for a replacement, (sending out today) The ??? They said ALL 520 and larger chains come with CLIP master links, yet the last 3 I replaced (mine& others) they all came with compresion RIVET Links. What have you seen as a standard, for the master links in a 520??? [Non-text portions of this message have been removed] [Non-text portions of this message have been removed]
