dupont teflon lube
Here's the hype on the spray which I get from Bike Bandit. None of the stores in town carry it anymore.
Features
-Use on any moving part
-Water repelling, 3 dimensional lubricant utilizing advanced DuPont Teflon fluoropolymer and calcium sulfonate
-Goes on wet to deeply penetrate and loosen frozen or rusted parts
-Sets up with a clean, dry, long-lasting film which will not attract and absorb dirt and grime
-Features patented "self-cleaning" technology, so parts stay clean, work better and last longer
On my KLR I do many gravel/dirt roads down here which are super dusty. I pass the water hose on my chain to knock off the dust and spray on the Dupont. I don't get very much build up around the counter sprocket with this stuff. Run my Bandit 1250S chain and sprockets over 40K miles with some left to go on all of it. Changed it due to a trip I was taking and had no clue where I was going or how many miles I was gonna do. Ended up with only 5500 miles on the trip. I could of left the old stuff on it if I would of seen into the future that well.
I have about 5000 miles on the KLR chain and sprockets with all looking very good.

If I found that Lube local I would buy 3 cans just to have spares.
As a service tech, I had many times items coming out of kitchen Wash rooms (Etc.) that thiongs were rusted, oxidized etc. and in the past tried MANY penitrants.
Only the Tephlon lube accualy Lubed it also. Saved me alot of PAIN many times.

Lowe's carries the blue label, DuPont, general purpose teflon lube &
sometimes the yellow lable chain-specific lube.
Both are o-ring safe. As an experiment, my girlfriend's GS500 chain has
gotten the blue labled stuff for 6k + miles now.
We've only adjusted the chain once since new.
And yes, she cleans the chain with WD-40 and then wipes it dry as possible
with a paper towel or terry cloth rag
before applying the thin-bodied DuPont lube. A combination of chemicals?
The chain is never run dirty or dry?
Luck? Who knows? But, the thing still looks like brand new. ymmv

I have been using the teflon lube myself, for the following reasons:
1. It's available at Fleet Farm, and I hear Lowe's too. That makes it pretty easy to come by, if not nearly as easy as WD40.
2. It doesn't trap any more dirt than WD40.
3. It lubricates pretty well, not that that makes a bit of difference to my chain life, but to all the tiresome know-it-alls who like to carry on about what a poor lubricant WD40 is, I can just say STFU, without wasting time explaining something that they don't want to hear anyway.
4. It's pretty cheap, a lot cheaper than proprietary chain lubes.
I don't have any idea how long my chains will last on it, and will probably never find out, because WD40 is always there, and this stuff may not be. But I can feel smug knowing what kind of chain life I can expect with WD40, which is more than anybody using any other product can say.

new email? do i lose old 1??
I just went to cox. Much faster. I understand my old sbcglobal accounts which are yahoo based will stay active but you best satisfy yourself as I have not closed my AT&T account yet. A friend of mine left AT&T for cox cable about a year ago. Their sbcglobal acct has remained active.

I've been using the Blue Can General Lube for the last 5 or so years. Didn't know they made the other stuff. Never seen it on the shelf. Closest Lowe's is about 18 miles from me. Guess me and the KLR will have to take a ride. I'm down to 1/2 a spray can. I generally carry the little plastic squirt job with me on trips.

dupont teflon lube
It's been a while since I bought some. The blue label cans I have say "Dry wax" on the label.
There was a formulation change, so now the blue label cans don't say "Dry wax" anymore.
Dupont announcement of the change: http://www2.dupont.com/Consumer_Lubricants/en_US/products/multi_use_lubricant.html
So I would look for the "Chain Saver" version at Walmart.
