Say what you will about Harley-Davidson. They are truly a global motorcycling icon.
Here's an interesting article about H-D enthusiasts in China.

If you want to be a member of a giant club, like to party on 2 wheels and chicks like them, get a HOG. If you want to be a part of a fairly good sized club, like a cheap go anywhere bike that chicks probably won't like, get a KLR. Or get both.

What year? If it's an 08+ I might consider a straight swap, depending on how much it was shortened...

Re: "the club", I've never really been much of a "joiner." A friend or two is about the biggest group I want to travel with.
Re: "Chicks": If I need a particular motorcycle to get chicks, I might want to re-examine myself. In addition, I really don't think I want a woman who's so shallow that she's attracted to shiny objects; I prefer more depth.

I don't think I'd know what to do with a woman who was drawn to me because I rode a Harley. The phrase that comes to mind is "Harley-lovin' skank".
As to clubs, here are a couple I find amusing:
The first is not so much a club as an annual event:

This one is not so much a club as a state of mind. I dunno if I am a member, but I know the secret handshake:

I actually know 2 guys who bought one for that very reason. One was a rich guy. First ride, he went barreling out of his driveway, lost control, hit the garbage cans, fell over....and sold the bike. Milage was ...a hundred feet. The other guy is still lonely.

I shudder to think of getting a Harley on gravel....but at least they have a low seat height (heh). There was a guy in Moab once that had a Sportster with street knobbies. A friend went riding with him on his KLR. Ah he did sorta OK but they had to stick with very tame terrain. Can we say top heavy and inept in sand.
