Has anybody used one of these for a cell phone or GPS? Any thoughts? Even if you haven't used it, any thoughts? http://www.aerostich.com/aerostich-left-leg-map-pocket.html -- Robert Wichert P.Eng. LEED AP BD&C +1 916 966 9060 FAX +1 916 966 9068 ===============================================

I had one of those Aerostich Velcro on map pockets with just a map in it. Was on a interstate highway doing about 70 mph, tipped my leg out to stretch a bit and the pocket blew off. Looks like a good idea. Now, identify the verb. uh, oh, trouble in syntax city.... and here is why it works, but not so well. Go out to your bike, strap a city map to your leg using a rubber band and drive down the street = zero traffic present and try to follow along. You will notice that it takes your attention away from the road for entirly to long to be useful (while in motion); plus the time it takes your eyes to focus down, find your location. Moving at 30 mph you have moved 44ft/sec, it takes 3/4sec to look down, more time to locate the target, identify the spot, oh my, where did that car come from. Otherwise, looking at the map while stationary, it works well. or as a secondary map for your GPS. Yes Virginia, I follow along on paper and GPS.... How it would work 'well' is to put a single page roll chart under that, delinated by blocks of 5 lines per block that give you line by line instruction; such as N on Main 5.8 miles W on Blunt .5 miles N on Jefferson W on Harrold W on I-24 ___________________ S on #26 5 miles that sort of thing. otherwise, plug your destination in the GPS if you have one. Net effect, it is a secondary, or tertiary solution; not the primary location for safe, moving, motorcycle map use. ymmv. revmaaatin.

Use Casenite surface hardner from Brownell's Inc, Montezuma, Iowa Randy Sent from my Verizon Wireless Phone -----Original Message----- From: k650@... The important thing to remember is the cam lobes and the shims are hardened to a similar hardness. If not you can have premature wear. Sometimes the shims are only surface hardened so removing material will remove the hardness. For this reason it is best practice to place the shim with the resurfaced side in the bucket and leave the untouched side to ride on the cam lobe. Walt -----Original Message----- Good work, Mark! I suppose with a surface grinder, we could go into business! Cheers! Robert Wichert P.Eng. LEED AP BD&C +1 916 966 9060 FAX +1 916 966 9068 ===============================================

I have not, but I have carried a GPS in the map pocket of a tank bag, or in a Cycoactive handlebar map case. Either one puts the unit up where i can see it easily. I can work the buttons of a 60CSX through the map window.

I've used that Aerostich map pocket and like it, though only for reading when stopped -- I found it was too hard to read when riding. Regards, Chris

I met a guy at some BMW rally years back that used to write his Theoretical Days Route all on his windshield ever morning. Told me, that way I keep my eyes on the road. ;-)
