The springy part inside probably rusted up and broke.

No. The tach works off the ignition system.

You can just get a speedometer cable from any kawi dealer, or
arrowheadmotorsports.com, or ronayers.com, etc. Look up the part# on
 buykawasaki.com and go shopping.

I bought a mesh reflective safety vest at Home Depot
last week. It is pretty unsubstantial but only cost
 $10.
I hoped that it would cause cagers to give me more
room but at least initially it has had the opposite
 effect.

Hi Ron, the two ways to look at it would be since you have it apart go the little extra and adjust all valves to their max as seems to be common practice or since the exhaust seemed to have settled in leave them alone and just adjust the intakes. If it was winter (for me, in your case you get to ride year round) I would most likely set the intakes. In your case I'd just close it up till the next service interval and ride. The exception to this would be if I was leaving on a long trip in which case I would do it now so I wouldn't have to even check it along the way...have a great weekend ...Greg

I just checked my valves at 8700 miles. The first time I checked and adjusted was at 1000 miles.

Here are original values, adjustments made at 1000, and current values:

   1000 mile 1000 mile 8700 mile
   Check Adjusted Check
 LE 0.007 0.009 0.009
 RE 0.007 0.009 0.009
 LI 0.005 0.007 0.006
 RI 0.007 NONE 0.007

I would like to just button back up leaving Left Int as is.

 Advice please!
