wheel wieghts

Post by sulteck » Fri Aug 03, 2012 2:19 pm

Since I'm about a 100 miles from a wheel balancer and about to change out some old rubber for new,,, a question came up. do i take the wheel weight off before or after i run the bike down the highway? Are the weights to balance the rim or the rubber or both?

The weights are there to balance both. When balancing a tire/rim combo here at the shop, we often leave the old weights on before checking the balance --- just in case they are close. But, more often than not, we have to take them off and start over. In either case, some tires require more weights than others. I'd have it checked as soon as you can. -eddie -----Original Message-----

bridgestone uhd tube update

Post by Tengai Mark Van Horn » Fri Aug 03, 2012 4:12 pm

I had that happen before with both the Bridgestones and either Moose or MSR HD tubes. It stopped doing that when I used Slime in the tubes. this last set has just Slime of normal color and consistency in there. To the folks who drone on about unsprung weight: Ya, Slime in an HD tube makes for a heavy wheel, but it really doesn't seem to alter the handling, IMO, YMMV. Ever since my crash in 2001, I started running HD/UHD natural rubber tubes in all of my bikes, and I've been adding slime since 2004. For what ever reason, these tubes seem to pick up rubber and make little balls that roll around and make noise but don't seem to effect anything else with these tubes.
