nklr, planning a dual sport camping trip to sam houston national fo
I'm planning a 3 day dual sport camping trip to Sam Houston National Forest north of Houston Texas on August 10-12. I'm posting this to see if anyone wants to join me. I recently went on a camping trip to Davy Crockett NF, and had a lot of fun. There are about 80 miles of off road trails to ride in Sam Houston NF. You would need a Texas OHV decal for a one time fee of $16, plus a $5 daily usage fee. The Texas OHV decal can be purchased by calling the Texas Parks & Wildlife Department Customer Service Center (CSC). The CSC phone number is: 512-389-8917. The decal can be paid for with a credit card. The decals are valid from September 1 to August 31 of the following year. Camping is going to be at a primitive area, maybe near the Kelly's Pond area. Camping is free in the primitive areas. There are campsites with facilities that you must pay for, but I prefer to camp away from the crowd. Here is a thread on the Two Wheeled Texans forum with a lot of
info. You will read about trail closures in that thread, but they have been reopened now.
