Was leaving on the LOOP Oh. erie pa. Roanoke va. Nc. ( to Hickory area then to deals gap.) Savana tn. the heading north. Not sure when and where I will be yet, I left a couple of days ago and got as far as 80east of toledo and got "THE CALL"...returned hm, fathers funeral is tomorrow and I'm debating leaving right after, or waiting untill after the 4th.......LESS speed traps etc.. So I was checking my shims this weekend and decided to pull out and measure the cams on my CMM. Well to start off they do not match the specs in the manual, they're close, but out of tolerance. I've got some graphics and spreadsheets for those interested (see below). Note: This all applies to my 2004 model. Here are the specs form the manual: Intake Open 19deg BTDC Intake Close 69deg ABDC Intake Duration 268deg Exhaust Open 57deg BBDC Exhaust Close 31deg ATDC Exhaust Duration 268deg Lets look at this a bit differently, the first column is crank shaft degrees: 0 - TDC, this is the power stroke. 123 - the exhaust valve is starting to open. 180 - BDC, now we're starting the exhaust stroke. 257 - the exhaust valve is fully open, with a 0.250mm clearance you should get a 8.05mm lift 341 - the intake valve is starting to open, we have 50 degrees of valve overlap where both valves are open. 360 - TDC, we're now starting the intake stroke. 391 - the exhaust valve is closed. 475 - the intake valve is fully open, with a 0.200mm clearance you should get a 8.60mm lift. 540 - BDC, we're now starting the compression stroke. 609 - the intake valve is fully closed. 690-710 - depending on the RPM this is where the spark plug fires. 720 - TDC, this is the same a 0 again. Well the above is all according to the manual. When you scan the cams on a CMM you get the actual profile and can figure out where everything happens. I've put a bunch of stuff on my FTP site, spreadsheets, pictures... A note about the information: The base radius on the intake and exhaust is 14.010mm. So on the exhaust with a 0.250mm clearance, when the radial deviation exceeds 14.260mm the valve is starting to open, and the intake with a 0.200mm clearance anything over 14.210mm is starting to open the valve. The X axis of the graphs is in crankshaft degrees and Y is the radial displacement of the cam lobe. All the spreadsheets are done in LibreOffice 3.5 and also saved as Microsoft Office XLS files, I do not know how good they'll turn out in Excel, but they're fine in LibreOffice (also LibreOffice is free! www.libreoffice.org) The graphs are not very linear, so some data is getting bunched up and makes the slopes look a bit different.
