Can someone post the part# for NAPA plastic/nylon washer that works well with the KLR drain plug? I have filed away; really filed it away. For the life of me, I can't find it. revmaaatin.

My local NAPA did not have # 704-1371 last Friday; they had this similar one. NAPA #704-1078. I bought it as it has been mentioned as a good washer on other forums as well. The difference is slight. white in color; -1078 is completly uniform in its shape and depth. blue-ish in color; -1371 has a recess for the bolt head to slip into. I have noted in the past this causes the washer to deform easily. I will be doing an oil change in the next couple of days and will report the 'field test'.

What does NAPA get for their crush washers? What is wrong with the OEM crush washer? I sell the one Kawasaki recommends for the KLR for about $.89 Fred http://www.arrowheadmotorsports.com From: Eckert, Christopher (CTO Service Delivery) Sent: Monday, May 07, 2012 8:09 AM To: DSN_KLR650@yahoogroups.com Subject: [DSN_KLR650] Re: NAPA Drain plug gasket I put this in the parts compatibility file

Local availability would be the primary issue. I ordered a bunch of them from you when I ordered a stack of oil filters and other stuff. If I only needed one I would not pay shipping for a washer. It is good to have a list of parts compatibility for those Saturday afternoons when you need to run to thee store fast for a crush washer From: Fred Hink [mailto:moabmc@...] Sent: Monday, May 07, 2012 12:14 PM To: DSN_KLR650@yahoogroups.com; Eckert, Christopher (CTO Service Delivery) Subject: Re: [DSN_KLR650] Re: NAPA Drain plug gasket What does NAPA get for their crush washers? <><><><><><> <><><><><><> Fred, Last time I bought one of the NAPA soft washers (maybe 5 years ago) it was $0.99. The reason I like the NAPA soft washer versus the factory part is the NAPA washer is reusable, seals well and takes less torque for proper installation. I regularly hear of folks ripping out the threads in the case using the factory crush washer. Sometimes they are trying to stop a leak/seep and other times they are just ham fisted. I know they are suppose to replace the crush washer every time but that I'll guess usually doesn't happen. It doesn't make the factory part bad, just the results of some folks using it improperly are bad. With the NAPA soft washer once the drain plug is finger tight/snug, another 1/4 turn is all it takes to finish tightening. I monitored my first use of the soft washer to make sure it wouldn't loosen. I've never had a leak, seep or the drain plug loosen in about 28,000 smiles of use with the NAPA soft washer. I used my first NAPA soft washer for maybe 6 or more oil changes. I replaced it a few years ago when I did my 685 kit as I had one I'd been carrying around for a few years and was also doing a lot of other work on the bike. I know I didn't really need to replace it but it just seemed like a good time. Fred, I paid $0.49 each. Reusable without annealing. yeah, yeah, yeah, annealing is not that hard if I can just find the 'stuff' after last summers move. sigh. still unpacking. and, SIR! NO EXCUSE SIR! I did not know you sell crush washers. yikes!! No offense, for once in my life, I live 'next' to an auto parts store; like three blocks away which is quite convienent. Everyone knows Super Fred has fast shipping, but three blocks is a close second! If I lived next to Arrowhead sports, we wouldn't be having this conversation... I would be buying crush washers in MOAB. So, are there any MOAB Methodist Churches in need of a broken down rev? revmaaatin. who will travel for an 'interview'.
