I had a flat on the trail a few weeks ago. Put two patches on the tube. After several days I go out to my bike and it is flat. I air it up. It stays up for a few more days and shows no sign of getting low, but then I go to get on it and it is completely flat. I air it up and it does the same thing again after a few days. I'm nearly 60 years old and have never seen this happen. Could it be the patch holding at "high pressure" but when it leaks off slowly and gets down to a certain pressure it then goes flat? Sounds exactly what I encountered last early fall. Patched a front tube out in the middle of nowhere and then a few weeks later even farther out nowhere, the tire kept going down, but not in a consistent manner. Had a new HD tube to pop in this time and found the patch had let go. I hear the new tubes do not take patches well like those of old. Perhaps I did not make clear what is happening. The tire stays up for several days without any sign of a leak, then, all of a sudden, it goes flat--completely flat. I air it up and it repeats...

6-8lbs of pressure with no one on the bike it will LOOK "fine". When running in deeper sand I know guys that let it out down to 12lbs. LOOKS ok.

I bet the air escapes daily. You may not notice anything at 30psi, 25...23...and then at 18 BAM! The tiire seems completely flat. I just heard guys talking about this on NPR 93.9 (saturday 10am "Car Talk"). Great and funny show I bet if you check daily you ll notice tat the air escapes a bit. Then again...maybe not
