A KLR ain't exactly a ruby slipper Jeffrey. I give them credit for taking a possibly crash damaged bike and making something different out of it. I'd have to see one in person to make my final decision about the looks, though. Been wanting to "rescue" a crashed bike for some time. Never thought about a cafe'd KLR. eddie

My first real street bike was a Kawa 500 triple that I put clip-ons and number plates on and removed the air box, center stand, oil tank, chain guard headlight cowling, whatever I could drop off. OK, it was a beginner's effort, but it was fun to ride and it was different from all the rest, which is really what it's all about. One man's godawful mess is another man's beloved ride. Looks pretty good to me. I was a canyon runner and a road racer way before I ever started riding off-road, and way, way before I started riding dual sports. I have always been a fan of big single cafe racers, ever since I put clip-ons on my second motorcycle, a DBD 500 Gold Star ( a very cool bike for which I will never be cool enough). This example looks a lot like a classic Brit cafe racer. I have often thought about how I might turn the KLR into a decently fast road bike, but doing a radical cosmetic transformation like the one in the link has not really occurred to me, and does not appeal. I would take steps to reduce the frontal area and clean up the aerodynamics in order to allow the bike to pull taller gearing, but I would not resort to clip-ons or clubman bars (as on the bike in the link); I no longer like the cafe-racer riding position, or, to be more precise, it no longer likes me. So while this bike looks pretty good to me, it is not something I would ride.
