Here is something to eliminate the easily broken choke (enrichener, I know) cable, I have no experience with it. I just found it on eBay and wanted to see what others think about it. A little pricey at $50, but when you break down all the parts it's replacing: $20 choke cable, $17 choke carb fitting, and $15 choke lever, it doesn't look that bad. So, what do you think? Pros/Cons? I've also heard of using the choke set up for a Harley Sportster. Bet that too would be less expensive than the eBay offering. One thing I know about the KLX choke setup is it doesn't have detents so you have to hold it open when using it. I bought one a few years ago thinking it would be a good thing and then learned about the lack of detents. I decided it would be more trouble than it was worth based on the lack of issues I've had with my stock set up. One thing I did do in 2003 was make a mirror/choke lever mount that replaces the clutch lever perch clamp. They are also available probably from Fred or other sources. I only made mine as an exercise in manual machining. I clicked on the link, said it was removed. My thaught was As fred said, why not use a choke off anouther bike. BUT I noticed why the instructions on my KLX250 say to slowly back off the choke, it is either On or off no stops in the middle. I have to hold it in the middle so RPM's don't go crazy.

I think the reason it said it was removed was because the link was not complete in the reply post. For some reason Yahoo formats the links wrong, it leaves off the end. For years, the Sportster choke knob has been the usual substitute, but I think it's the answer to the question nobody is asking. My handlebar-mounted lever has been trouble-free for about 45,000 miles and nine years, and presumably gave the PO no trouble for four years before that. I have biffed my bike many times. Jeffie Ecker has biffed it a few more. A couple of cars have knocked it down in parking lots. The stock lever has survived without a problem. My DR350s have the enricher knob right on the carb. It's a bit inconvenient. My DR650 has the lever on the bar. It's wonderful. If my existing lever should go kablooie, I might replace it with the Sportster of KLX setup if the parts were appreciably cheaper, but for now I'd be more likely to convert the 350s to a bar-mounted operation.

Hmmm, I have 2 KLR's in my garage (one mine, one my father in-law's) both with broken carb fittings and handlebar levers. I can't tell you how these were broken because we bought them this way. Mine is a 1997 with 13K miles and his is a 2007 with 8K. I appreciate the convenience of a handlebar mounted lever. I'm also aware of the clutch lever relocation bracket for the lever to put it in a more protected location. I need to spend some money replacing the broken parts, with this set up I'm sure there would be no chance of it breaking again. I have a KLX250. I would pay extra money to move the choke lever control to the handle bar. The location of the current enricher on the carb is a PIA. Especially so with an Acerbis tank. Don't even think about operating it with gloves on. Anyone willing, with payment, to help with a doohickey replacement on 2008 KLR? I am NOT mechanically inclined at all and have a 2008 KLR 4.5K miles and due to disability (2 failed back surgeries) have not ridden in a while. Getting ready to sell the beast and want to make it 100% before selling it. Only have basic tools and am willing to pay someone to do it, while I watch/assist, both doohickey and valve adjustment. Coud you turn this eliminator into a compact spare choke actuator? I wonder if the threads where the plunger handle attaches are the same as the nether end of the stock cable? Maybe you could use the eliminator to replace the stock plastic plunger assembly, then unscrew the plunger part of the eliminator and screw in the nether end of the stock clutch cable. The point? You carry the eliminator's plunger in case your cable or stock choke lever breaks. Secondary benefit: you replace the plastic plunger assembly with what looks like a brass one. It's on the long side compared to the stock one and the aluminum one I put on, but that probably won't hurt anything.
