rattling noise

Hello klr folk, Your feedback will be greatly appreciated. I have a 09 with an oil drinking/burning/? problem, so my plans are to do the 685 upgrade, since Kawa believes that a quart and a half per 1000 miles is ok. I bike has 21k smiles. Now to the questions. What is the main parts needed to make this upgrade? Do I need to do the extra porting? Is the therma-bob needed? OEM gaskets or just use the kits? If you answers to the questions I didn't ask, just fill in the blank. Thank you all again in advance, Ken Colorado
