avoiding a klr just because of the doo?

Post by Jeffrey » Tue Nov 29, 2011 9:33 pm

Besides having to upgrade the Doo, the balancer bearings are prone to failure. This is because of all the heavy counterweights involved...it isn't just the balancer shaft, there are heavy counterweights on the water pump shaft also. My best guess is my balancer shaft bearing spun from 35k miles and being chained to heavy counterweights. I would consider changing the balancer bearings and balancer chain at around 35K and doing something about the bore if my newish KLR650 engine starts to use oil like the old one--though it didn't smoke.
