I vote for Sgt Marty
Diagrams out and cautions at the critical moments/critical points. He also shows where the all the pain in the ass shims/washers go.

Thanks. I'll check into it when/if I decide to do it. I"m thinking about
getting a new 2011. Has it been decided whether or not Kawasukki has done a
factory fix on the new ones so we don't have to worry about this? My buddy
bought a DR650 just because of the doohicky.

From what I gather, Kawi finally did an OK job on the doohickey but not the spring. So, you should still go in there before 10K miles and put in the torsion spring.
