starting mystery

Thanks, Revmaaatin, for your insightful words of wisdom. I did what you suggested, and found a remarkable amount of grime on the inside of the female solenoid connector when I ran a q-tip stalk in it. I was not aware of such a product as electrical contact cleaner, so I got a can and gave both sides of the connector a few shots. I couldn't really see inside the female connector, so I couldn't evaluate the cleaner's effectiveness. However, I sprayed some on a grimy section of the bike and was amazed at what a great job it did. The bike starts right up now. I'm eager to let it sit overnight and see if the problem is gone for good. Or at least gone for another 5,000 miles, at which point I'll know what to do. I also appreciate your reference to the previous discussion on this very topic, which I had missed. I was delighted to discover the advanced search functions on the list, and located the thread in no time. This list is a tremendous help to me. I'm very grateful to all you experienced people who take the time to share your tips and tricks. Kevin
