OK, first, I am not a KLR guru, nor a mechanic, so please bear with me, my question is, "Are there any tubeless rims that will fit the KLR?" I am thinking, if one could fit a tubeless rim on a KLR, a flat would be a simple "plug" job and not what we have to do now to fix a flat.....

If you use Dunlop D606 tires with two rim locks on each wheel you will have run flat tires. The sidewalls of the tires are strong enough to support the weight without any air in the tube and the rim locks keep the tires on the rim. I have tried this out at highway speeds. Of course you need to be careful as the handling will be different. Only drawback is accelerated tread wear if you put significant miles on it without any air and you don't want to hit rocks or potholes at speed as the rim could be damaged. No need to stop and fix. Get to where you are going and repair or replace the tube at your leisure. I suppose that would be nice. You'd have to have a real tubeless rim, with a bead retention shoulder, and a real tubeless tire, with a tight seal to the rim. Those two features would make mounting the tire much more difficult, and would put you in a real bind if the bead did somehow become unseated. I would not want to try get a tubeless bead to seat on a shouldered tubeless rim along the trail with a hand pump or a wimpy little electric pump. Seating the bead and mounting a tubed tire is much, much easier, more than worth a little added inconvenience when it comes time to fix a flat.

That Tubliss system uses tube tires, the inner bladder serves as the bead retention. So mounting and unmounting the tires is as easy as with tube tires. Personally, somebody mentioned taking a bunch of those heavy duty zip ties and zip tie the tire to the rim and limp back to civilization maybe stuffing grass into the tire area. Seems like might work. I used to think tube less was good until a friend mentioned maybe not good on a dual sport because if you ride it flat and it pops off the bead, you are going to have hell getting it back on. One old guy I met at Moab maybe 10 years ago ran tubless tires on his KLR by silly cone ing the bead and spoke nipples. A friend whose business is wrenching bikes says that is a very unsafe thing to do as can lead to a sudden blow out. I respect his opinion. I have seen those inner tube thingy's at Cycle Gear and thought about trying them but too lazy to do. Those seem like a good idea. Criswell Sent from my iPad

Upon further investigation, Tubliss does not make these for 18 inch wheels, so we could only do a front wheel on a KLR. They are planning on making an 18 inch one early next year. [Non-text portions of this message have been removed]
