I just got home (Via U-Haul truck) It does turn over and the clutch , neutral , and kickstand safteys have all been bypassed .....The Kill switch will also kill the Ignition circuit but It seems to be working..... Yesterday I checked the excitor coil on the stator and It's reading about 1000 ohms higher than spec so i'm thinking maybe something shorted between the coils ....I've got another stator at my shop that I'll check tomorrow and see what it specs out at and then decide if I want to pull the cover and replace it....Thanx for all your help guys....I'll keep you posted on what I find. I see some are talking about the kill switch (may as well through in the clutch saftey switch and the kick stand switch). My experience is if there is a problem with them, the engine doesn't turn over. Don R100, A6F

It's got 43,500 smiles on it and hasn't had any major problems since I bought it.....The problems I did have were easily diagnosed and fixed on the side of the road.... 7:30 Saturday morning, It was running perfect till I pulled up to tha House Rock overlook just about 30 miles from the north rim of the Grand Canyon and died right there....No cell phone service at all.....luckily It was a popular place for people to stop and take pictures.....I got to meet alot of interesting people..... About 8:00 the Navaho babes selling jewlery pulled up and set up shop.....The Japanese were only interested in taking pictures....Then there was the Black trucker from Dominican Republic trying to get to Tuscon ....I had to show him on my map how to get there....He seemed kinda lost !!!!! Later, About 20 American guys and gals on Harley pulled up and I thought they might give me sh*t about riding a KLR but actually helped me troubleshoot the kill switch.....Right after they left about 15 Brazilian guys on Harleys pulled up....They were'nt much help though !!!! Then there was the Biker from Spain.... He was a little hard to understand but seemed to know his way around bikes..... The retired folks from Wisconson and the 2 gals from Colorado we're my carrier pidgeons....They got word of my demise to the outside world and got me some help It still was an interesting experience....I was stuck out in the middle of nowhere and got to meet people from all over the world....An experience I will never forget. Or spray electrical contact cleaner in around the kill switch. Another lister uses WD-40, but I've never been sure the lubricant in that won't gum up the contacts.

I use ACF-50. Certified airframe and electrical system anti-corrosion agent (http://www.corrosion-control.com/pcproducts/acf-50.html for one seller). It's a bit spendy, but I've seen comparisons with other compounds including WD40 where this was by far the best product. Even use it on the chain at times. ________________________________ From: James W. DCORYM, Can I ask what the symptoms/problems were with your KLR before you changed out the resistor? What was happening to the motorcycle, how long, when, how it ran? It would help us pinpoint this issue in the remove and replace (R&R, non-technical) world. KLR Bugeater Charlotte, NC

If you unscrew the boot from the spark plug wire, you can see the slot for a screwdriver in the contact for the spark plug. Unscrew that contact, and a spring and resistor should fall out. The resistor can be replaced by a wad of foil or other conductive substance in a pinch (that's what I did). > > --- In DSN_KLR650@yahoogroups.com, Mike Huber wrote: > > > > > > > > > > I've been on a 2 week ride down here in Utah visiting with Fred and riding some of the best dualsport trails in the world and had a blast till yesterday.....I was on the way back home to New Mexico by way of the Grand Canyon when I pulled up to a scenic overlook (with NO cell service) and my KLR died.....Luckily there were also lots of nice folks stopping too to offer help and advice as the nearest real town was Kanab and was 50 miles away.... > > > > I did some troubleshooting and had fuel but NO SPARK.....being prepared with spare parts i replaced the coil and CDI unit and still NO SPARK !!!! 5-6 years ago, I stopped at a rendezvous point to meet up with some other riders. Bike was running fine before that. When I went to start it after they arrived, it simply wouldn't start. Checked fuel and spark, and discovered no spark condition. I didn't have a multimeter or any other electrical test tools with me, but one of the group knew of the resistor and suggested I try replacing it with the aforementioned wad of foil, and it started right up. I was amazed! I had no idea the resistor was even in there, and probably would still be there if it hadn't been for that guy.

have you seen the new ims 8-10 gallon fuel tank?

Post by david.r.nichols@sbcglobal.net » Wed Sep 28, 2011 2:28 pm

IMS Products just confirmed that they will not be replacing the existing 6.6 or 5.5 gallon tanks, this is their new "Adventure" tank and the older models will still be sold.
