barkbusters and stock bar weights?
Can I use a set of Barkbusters on a 2010 KLR and keep the stock bar end weights or is it a one or the other situation?

Vic, Reading your post very carefully-- I am pretty sure you can keep the stock bar end weights if you use Barkbusters. It does not appear that Barkbuster require you to turn them in on trade. However,, most likely the bar-end-weights will be in your 'tool-box' or used as fishing weights; and not on your motorcycle. LEG PULL SWITCH--OFF BarKbusters, Moose/Tusk and others are a good investment. I have yet to break a protected lever; Lord knows I tried. Howdy,
Two points re: the Barkbusters link provided by Vik.
1) Clicking the link "See this link for fitting Instructions unique to the KLR650E" opens a PDF, the end of which shows Barkbusters installed with stock bar-end weights (warning included).
2) The Barkbusters' KLR650 page Vik links to shows product no. B66 under "Other Related Products". These appear to be stylish, low-profile bar-end weights for custom for the VPS handguards. Weight is given at 180 grams each.
Has anyone tried either setup? Anyone know the weight of the stock bar-end weight and how it compares to the VPS custom? I like the low profile of the B66.

barkbusters and stock bar weights?
I have Zeta Armor Handguards (equivalent to Barkbusters) with Ricor Vibranators to replace the stock handlebar end weights. Installation was very easy and everything works very well.
My handlebar vibration is significantly less than half it was before I installed the Vibranators (which are mounted internally so nothing extends beyond the hand guards. The Zetas completely protect my hands.
Although I bought Zeta XC Flasher "turn signal" hand guards at the same time I got the Zeta Armor Handguards, I decided to keep and slightly modify the original Kawa hand guards and bolt them onto the Zeta Armor parts since the Kawa guards are at least twice as large as the Zeta handguards.
This might be a little confusing because of the terminology. The Zeta Armor Handguards are hard aluminum bar knuckle protectors and the Zeta XC Flasher handguards are plastic replacements for the original Kawa plastic handguards. I used the Zeta aluminum bars but decided the Kawa plastic handguards were a better solution for me than the Zeta XCs. The Kawa guards look pretty good installed too.

So, did you run the handguards for a while before installing the Vibranators (great name, BTW) in order to be able to distinguish the effect of the Vibranators on vibration from that of the hand guards?

I don't know, "Vibranator" sounds like the name of something that would
appear in an add with the words "deep penetrating massage".

jardine rt-4 is good with the $40 extra quiet module
As a side note on stupid loud, a couple of years back my brother and I were on a ride through Big Sur, just gently cruising down the coast and enjoying the scenery.
We caught up to a guy and his gal from Colorado on a KLR going the same way we were. I don't know what exhaust he was running, but it was EXTREMELY loud. It was so loud that it was very nearly painful to me, 30 yards behind with my face shield down.
We ended up pulling over for a while to let him gain some ground, partly so we didn't have to listen to him and partly because I didn't want anyone to think I was with him.
Now, I'm not a complete prude when it comes to exhaust. I want my bikes to run and sound "healthy", but stupid loud is .... well... stupid, especially in a place of spectacular beauty where people come to get away from stupid, loud things.
/rant off.

It is so loud without it. Think of a very loud
2 stroke or a 4 stroke with no muffler at all or a super-retarded motard. Makes the KLR comparable to a loud Harley.
Definite weight savings since the muffler is aluminum. The quiet module is an easy mount restrictor that installs into end of the tail pipe.
The Jardine RT-4 requires trimming of your plastic rear fender 1" by
3" or the hot air coming out the exhaust would melt it. The DPO riveted the hanger in place which is a D thing to do since the rivets just wore oblong holes in the muffler that I had to get alu welded. I used some gasket material to insulate/isolate it from the hanger though I could cut it closer to make it look prettier.
But, new you would spend $300 for the Jardine RT-4 then another
$40 for the quiet module.
It is an expensive way to avoid the tweety and save an est. 6 lbs.
However, it does improve torque and hp.

Yes, and the difference was immediately noticeable.
