klr muffler replacement
Greetings KLR lovers,
Im looking to get a replacement muffler for my 2007 klr and need some
opinions.
Most of my riding is in the city so I'm fighting traffic alot and the stock
muffler is way to quiet. I was thinking o doing the "low buck mod" but I'm
not sure it's gonna be loud enough.
I dont want the bike to sound super loud bit I need a nice "cheap"
improvement.
Are there any other mods out there that I can do myself?
Does anybody have a video or soundclip of their muffler?
Many thanks

klr muffler replacement
Please do not do this. All you do is piss people off and make them hate
motorcyclists. The right way to be safer on the road is to take a MSF
course. You need to learn to ride as if you are invisible. This way you
don't expect other drivers to know you are there and don't put yourself in a
bad situation in the first place. The worst thing you can do is make your
bike loud and get lulled into a false sense of security expecting other
drivers to "hear you then become road pizza when they don't.

Kevin- Thanks for reporting back! Have you done a SeaFoam treatment of your gas as well? Why I ask: One thing that is missing is the timing: Q. was this problem in conjunction with a winter-sleeping bike where the gas has set up all winter (in some cases, as little as 6 weeks?) Perhaps 6oz of SeaFoam = 1oz/gal through the carb might free up a 'varnish' spot that is in the enricher circuit. It might take two full tanks to see results. Q. In a very quite place, move the enricher lever. You should be able to hear it move inside the carb, rich, lean, rich, lean. Q. Do you shut off the fuel before you shut off the bike and run the carb dry? If you are, it takes several seconds to recharge the fuel bowl before it effectively charge the cylinder with the proper fuel/air ration due to the vacuum petcock. Q. When using the full-enricher, then it died, did you add throttle? Seems to me it should run without adding throttle (CV-Carb). It should take zero/very little throttle after the bike fires. Now that it seems to have part of the puzzle solved: After it starts-dies at full enricher, immediately go to 1/2 enricher and attempt to start again without throttle. then, Wide open throttle if that does not work. Remember, that starters make heat and do NOT run the starter for more than 10-15 secs tops, without a cooling period = one cranking cycle. (some Aircraft starters use something like 30 sec on, cool 30 sec, 30 sec on, cool, 30 sec on, cool 30 minutes. LIST: If 10 seconds is to conservative, someone on the say so.... It certainly seems like it is getting way to much gas (or way to little) at the beginning. You could also try cranking at the very beginning with the petcock selected OFF then adding enricher as the bike 'cranks' and see if that helps.> > Thanks for the words of wisdom. I realized upon re-reading your post that you were suggesting I crank and then add enricher, which I haven't tried yet. Perhaps that will do the trick! > > While I'm pleased with the progress, I sure am mystified about why it started great before I made all the "improvements," and now has become so finicky. > > Kevin >
Now that we know that the wide open throttle setting/scenario is working, maybe that fact will be helpful to one of the carb-smart people on the list; until someone else replies, immediately go to CAR PARTS/BIG BOX STORE and SEAFOAM the fuel/carb. smile. Not that I think this is a problem: Q. Have you checked the plug? Plugs are cheap. If you pull it, go ahead and replace it it is even slightly suspect. NOTE: remember to blow out the spark plug hole with air if possible. Where/How? There is a little port on the R side where you can add air (it was designed/allows water to drain out. If no air you could use water (with caution) to get the trail smooge/grasshopper guts from around the spark plug. Dry with a rag tipped screwdriver if you clean with water, etc. Lastly, I don't remember Q. if you just serviced the air filter? If the bike filter is dirty, or over serviced with oil de jour, it will/can cause hard starting as well. HTH-- News at 6 please. revmaaatin.> > However, I followed your tip about turning the petcock to off and cranking with full throttle and no enricher. Success! >
