The other bar that matches the stock bend well is the pro taper se ATV mid-height. I've crashed a couple times and they have held up well although I also run maier deluxe woods hand guards. Steve

Steve, I've got nearly the same bars (I've got the "HI" ATV bars) and the same hand guards, and I'm having trouble installing the guards. Did you have to modify/bend the guards to get them to fit? --John Kokola -----Original Message-----

Hi John, I choose to leave the end balls on the clutch and brake levers so I did bend/modify my guards. The clutch side was the easiest and on the throttle side I ended up using a 3/8" spacer on mounting perch. My tools for bending the guards were the trailer hitch on my car which has a 1 inch receiver and a cheater bar. I'd stick the guard part way into the receiver then tweak it using the cheater bar. I believe this fine engineering process(trailer hitch & cheater bar) didn't allow me to optimize the bend so in essence the guard became too short and I need to add a spacer to make up for the lack of length. If I would have trimmed off the end balls on the levers the guards would have fit with minimal tweaking. NOTE - The front brake lever has a part by the reservoir that sticks out when the brake lever is pulled in. I thought I hand the perfect bend once then found out I didn't have enough clearance to fully squeeze the front brake. Good luck, Steve

I choose the aluminum SE model and if I remember right they are within about a 1/2" of the stock width. I couldn't seem to make sense of all the handbard measurements listed on the web, I swear there must be mistakes out there. Another lister told me they are very close to the stock bend and when I lined them up they seemed like a copy of the stock bend to me. Steve

I'm going to piggyback another question on to this topic. I'm riding my bike mostly on-road and would like to narrow the handlebars by removing about 1" or so from each end. Has anyone done this mod and is there anything I should know before approaching this project? If I go ahead with the mod, I'm planning on using a tubing cutter in order to get a nice clean cut. thanks, ed A17
