Hi Van: I paid $60 including shipping for one of Chris' first (like a prototype) batch. Now the price has gone up. I wanted the guard for protection during adventure touring in places like South America where it may be difficult to find anything. Aside from that it is damn cool looking. If it doesn't turn you on -- don't buy it. If nobody buys at $90, maybe he'll drop the price. It's all about supply and demand and the bottom line is profit. I could wear a garbage bag to keep the rain off, but I choose to wear an expensive rain suit. To each his own. Lew Waterman Punky & Lew's Americas Motopaseo Greenacres, Florida

About 55 bucks. Bought one last year. Now use clear rubber guard from Dual Star-if I remember right, under $10-no problems yet. "Swede" "Mjollnir"-A11

I also use the Dual Star clear rubber guard. Jes' fine. I put in a high- wattage bulb, and it's still ... jes' fine. Cheaper and better. Weird. -Spike

Unfortunately bears and squirrels don't sell headlights. If you break a headlight when you're out in the woods you may not be able to drive home, if you drive home at night. Most of the busted headlights on motorcycles comes from someone in front of you kicking up a rock or roosting you with rocks. Also truck tires can pick up rocks on the highway and launch them at you.

I agree that Chris' headlight guard looks great but its too heavy duty for my taste. I have been using a piece of plexi-glass to protect my KLR headlight for the last 6000 miles with good results. I can't wait to see the winch mounts for the dual-sports. Harry Thames South Carolina

When I was at NOAB, I noticed one of the bikes had a headlight guard similar to the one that Big Cee lists. Instead of the tube type supports Chris' offers, this one looked like it used 1" flat bar attached to the upper and lower fairing support screws. Of course, I didn't think to ask at the time, but does anyone know if this was a homebrew version, or one that is comercially available? TIA Guy A16

Trying to decide to which guard I want on the headlight. Clear plastic like my Connie has or the bolt on screen. I'm leaning towards the screen not trusting the glue on the Velcro tabs. ________________________________ From: RobertWichert To: k650@... What year is your KLR? I am not aware of any wire stone guards for the late model KLR, so I would guess that you have an early model KLR. I believe that the plastic guards could block the flow of air to cool your headlight and could cause heating problems with a higher wattage bulb. Ventura makes a good plastic guard for the late model KLRs. http://www.angelfire.com/ut/moab/images/ventura_lightguard.jpg Since the late model KLR headlight is much more expensive than the early model KLRs, I would suggest a Ventura guard. If you have an early model KLR, I would recommend the wire stone guards. I have a screen over my 07 and it works fine. I was just thinkin about the clear plastic thing. Would it work it you mounted it on some kind of standoffs? You know like a space between the lamp and the protector. It may be the way they come idono. Gary Souderton, Pa. To: DSN_KLR650@yahoogroups.com; longhaul877@... From: moabmc@...
