I used a Hammer and long screwdriver... Dinged up the round exit a little bit.. but.. sooooo Just split the preforated tube along the bottom, started bike and rev'd to blow out the fiberglass. Tada.. Best aftermarket muffler is like best tires or best oil. Everyone has an opinion (most KLRistas tend to stay stock). Figure out your budget and look for something that fits. If you really want to save weight on the KLR, a much cheaper solution is ditching the entire front cowling/headlight assembly for an aftermarket unit that straps to the forks. Me, I gave up on trying to shave weight off of a beast to which I've probably added 50lbs of protective equipment and have begun to look elsewhere. I recommend standing on the pegs and looking down - that area above the belt buckle is a prime target for weight loss. da Vermonster

Muffler threads are like oil threads,tire,seat, "Blah Blah"and they come around once a month just like you know what and we all got opinions,if you want to spend your hard earned cash on an aftermarket muffler go for it they certainly sound better than stock if a little louder,just keep it down to a dull roar in the built up areas,I've got the Supertrapp IDS 11 on mine and like it very much along with my K&N filter and a rejet i can almost keep up with my KTM buddys,"Almost" The trouble with loud pipes is that people that abuse them give all people who modify there exhaust a bad rap we all get lumped into the same trash bin,but i can live with that cause i ain't one of them! buy and enjoy. Mark reminded me. I also used the two prong battery tender plug to connect and run a heated jacket and gloves. Very sparingly since the KLR generates a small amount of electrical power. Jim

Is the Laser Pro Duro exhaust for the KLR 650 even available anymore? I own two of them (one quiet and one "off-road"), but they both look like they have been thrown off a cliff and beat with sledgehammers. The mounting strap on one of them finally failed from age/metal fatigue at a most inopportune moment, about 50 miles into a 200+ mile ride. Thanks CA Stu
