thanks, update, and a new radiator fan problem

First, I want to thank all of you who gave me ideas on dealing with the acceleration problem on my 2006 rebuild (the bike would die if I gave it more than 1/2 throttle). All the ideas made sense, first the carb then vacuum leaks. Unfortunately, after cleaning the carb 3 times and checking everything for tears or leaks I still couldn't find the problem. What it was: A determined mechanic here in Panama (after I exceeded my own capabilities) found that it was the compression release mechanism that allows the bike to start, then closes. Compression was at 50 PSI. Once he fixed that, mucho power and great acceleration. I forgot (after a year and a half) just how much fun this bike is! New problem: The only thing remaining is the radiator fan, which doesn't go on. Bike runs cool on the highway, but heats up when I stop. I can't find anything in the Clymer manual on how to trace this problem. Ideas much appreciated. As soon as this is fixed I'm back on the road!

new radiator fan problem

The cooling fan issue could be something as simple as a blown fuse/bad connection at the sensor or as complicated as a faulty sensor or even the fan itself. Be sure to make absolutely sure the fan will turn freely by hand first. You don't want something simple turning into a burned out fan motor. =) Test? Unplug the sensor and ground it with the bike running. Fan come on? Sensor's bad. No? Check the fuse again and try connecting the fan directly to a 12V power source. Still no? Fan time. Good luck and let us know what you find! eddie PS: If the sensor's bad, you could always rig a simple toggle switch to turn the fan on directly when you get in traffic, etc...
