But I can see this happening to *me* ;-) : So, I forget to place something suitable under the kickstand, which sinks into the ground, dropping the bike and crushing me in my sleep. Alternative scenario includes a fuel leak and subsequent fire inside my tent while sleeping. --- In DSN_KLR650@yahoogroups.com, "skypilot110" wrote: > > Never heard of it. Mark: I have five tents in the span of 35 yrs. Still have the latest Eurekas. I'd always recommend a free standing tent plus find one with a simple frame that is easy to do in the dark by memory. I sort of have a bad back and the Timberlites have low rooflines, which forces me to use some gymnastic moves to get in and out of the smaller 2-man Timberlite. You can not sit up in the small one so it is impossible to put you boots on in a dry place. The other issue with tents in areas without trees is that is gets hot as hell in them when the sun it out and you can't get enough airflow even with both end-screens open. You can open the doors but them mosquitos will be your friends. The one I use most of the time now is the Eureka Pinnacle Pass 2XT. It is free standing (only 2-poles for the frame). It has major sections of screening on 3-sides and it was $120. You can easily sit up in it and get your boots on. There is plenty of room down the one side for all of your gear and you sleep on the other side. The only problem(s) is the yucky colors: blue, green, and another color green and I don't think they make them anymore. The Apex is similar but they have solid material sides. BTW, Don't put down a ground cloth (sheet of plastic) since the water always gets in between the tent floor and the plastic. Since there will always be a hole, leaky seam, or worn spot in a tent floor the water will find any weakness and percolate up into your sleeping bag. I just put a big sheet of plastic inside the tent that goes up the wall about 6"-8" the whole way around. This "skirt" of plastic keeps your pillow that might be pushed up against the tent wall from wicking rain water plus you can easily withstand 1" deep of standing water around your tent. If the plastic cracks or punctures, tape it or replace it. I've stayed dry on all of my campouts (former scout leader 23 yrs and now motorcycle camping for 10 more yrs). Don R100, A6F

Ya but I have always thought a house should have more garage bays than beds and baths so The same should go for tents I suppose From: tomatocity [mailto:tomatocity@...] Sent: Tuesday, January 04, 2011 1:29 AM To: Eckert, Christopher (Infrastructure Solutions Dept.) "Ya but I have always thought a house should have more garage bays than beds and baths so The same should go for tents I suppose" All I know is, if you take a car with a perfectly good roof and put it in a garage, you have a waste of roofage. I don't care how many garage stalls you have, you don't start putting cars in there until all the bikes are put away.
