Robert, Your fact(s) is interesting. Just changing to a 13T, now it uses more oil? or "I still want to run 80mph regardless of the gearing...and it uses more oil." Extended periods of riding at 5K+rpms will result in higher oil consumption in nearly all KLR650's, regardless of the gearing. Don't be surprised if riding at 6K+rpms will probably use 1 Qt in 500 miles. My son and I both used a ratio equivalent of 13/43 this summer for 2000 dual-sport miles without ever seeing the oil line in the window (true 2.5L added with filter change). Tim, It could be an intermittent short.  Was your bike involved in the wiring recalls (I think the 2008 or later models)?
