OK all you ' Pro's ' - I sent out this same plea a few weeks ago, but it never made in to the 'Digest'. I got my bike {gently used but new-to-me} because it HAD the 2in links installed. I didn't even think about the kickstand. Now, after about 18 months of familiarity, a couple of 'tip overs' that I blamed on myself, and some recent reading of this Group's 'messages', I see my error. I'm a WOODEN boat builder - I have no access to welding equipment, nor friends who do. I would rather NOT cut my original stand - 'failure IS an option !!' Does ANYBODY have either an old, or 'take off ' OEM-length stand, or a 'cut' one, that they would sell CHEAP ?? {I can cut it myself - but 'welding time' doesn't come cheap around here} Regards & Thanks, Ron Magen Backyard Boatshop {'03 650} _______________________________________ No infections found in this outgoing message Scanned by iolo System Shield http://www.iolo.com

~~~~Here's another option- http://www.cjdesignsllc.com/LC8parts.html Look down the page, CJ modifies side stands for LC8's. Ron you can buy a shortened side stand from Arrowhead motor sports and others $60,or cut your OEM side stand put a narrower piece in there drill some holes put some nuts and bolts on then you can take it back to stock if you want.                                                                                                      Stu. lowering links . . . kickstand cutting
Post by RobertWichert » Wed Oct 06, 2010 1:00 pm
If you aren't off road, you can actually get by with just cutting it off.  For a 2" drop, cutting off 3.5 cm (1 3/8 in.) on the short side and 5 cm (2 in.) on the long side, perpendicular to the axis of the tube (no bevel) resulted in it working perfectly (it may be a little too short).  The only issue is that the thin tube could cut into the asphalt (and it WILL dig into dirt) and the bike can / will fall over.  To remedy this for the road, I put a PVC pipe plug (3/4" I think) into the tube and duct taped it to stay.  It works fine now with the additional 1/4 in. from the pipe plug. Welding on a foot (a bigger foot than stock) should take even an amateur welder a few minutes at most.  I'm sure they will charge MUCH less than the $85 they want for the adjustable one. And if you are welding, if it's wrong, just weld it some more!  Robert P. Wichert P.Eng +1 916 966 9060 FAX +1 916 966 9068 ========================================================
Other than that, I would most likely be content to just add the oil at that rate, although one quart for every 1000 miles does seem pretty high. Robert P. Mike Hilton Louisiana   PS: on the 08's they increased the oil change interval to 7.5K, but I faithfully change oil and filter at 5K.  Your dealer can make the difference with Kaw!   ----- Original Message ----- From: kjedick@... My drinks (burns out) about a 1 Quart and 5 oz. every 1000 miles. Kawi also said this was acceptable . Bike runs great. I commute 70+ miles round trip on a combination of rural roads (34 miles @ 65/70 mph), City streets (24 miles of stop and go @ 35 mph) and dirt roads (12 miles of dirt roads @ 45 mph). Bikes has had this problem from day one. (Current mileage10785 miles ) No Mods just farkle. HT Crash guards and Panniers. I guess I'm looking for some advice on what my next move should be to resolve this issue. Ken Colorado
